The King of Herbs in Siddha Medicine.
If there is one herb that stands above all others in the Tamil Siddha tradition, it is Kadukkai. Known as Haritaki in Sanskrit and Chebulic Myrobalan in English, this small, wrinkled fruit has been called the "king of medicines" in ancient Siddha texts. It is one of the three fruits that make up Triphala — the most celebrated herbal formulation in Indian medicine — and it has been used for thousands of years to treat, prevent, and rejuvenate.
Nattrinai's Kadukkai is sourced from mature, naturally dried fruits and ground to a fine powder that preserves the full spectrum of its therapeutic compounds.
Why Kadukkai?
- Master digestive tonic — one of the most powerful natural laxatives and digestive regulators; relieves constipation, bloating, and irregular bowel movements gently and effectively
- Detoxification — deeply cleanses the digestive tract, liver, and colon of accumulated toxins (ama) in the Siddha tradition
- Immunity booster — exceptionally rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants that strengthen the body's natural defence mechanisms
- Anti-ageing (Rasayana) — classified as a Rasayana herb in Siddha medicine, meaning it rejuvenates tissues, slows ageing, and promotes longevity
- Oral health — traditionally used as a tooth powder and mouth rinse to strengthen gums, reduce inflammation, and fight oral bacteria
- Respiratory support — used in Siddha formulations for coughs, asthma, and chronic respiratory conditions
- Skin & wound healing — applied topically to wounds, ulcers, and skin infections for its natural astringent and antimicrobial properties
How to Use
Mix half a teaspoon of Kadukkai powder in warm water and drink at bedtime for gentle overnight digestive cleansing. For oral health, use as a tooth powder or mix with water as a mouth rinse. For skin application, mix with honey or rose water to form a paste and apply to affected areas.
As with all potent Siddha herbs, start with a small dose and consult a qualified practitioner for personalised guidance, especially during pregnancy or if on medication.
