Salt the Way Nature Intended.

Not all salt is the same. The white, free-flowing table salt most of us grew up with has been heavily processed — stripped of its natural minerals, bleached, and loaded with anti-caking agents. Indhu Uppu, the ancient rock salt used in Indian kitchens for thousands of years, is none of that. It is salt in its most natural, unprocessed form — mined from ancient mineral deposits, hand-processed, and free from any chemical treatment.

In Tamil households, Indhu Uppu has always been the preferred salt — for cooking, for fasting days, and for Ayurvedic and Siddha preparations. Its gentle flavour, rich mineral content, and digestive benefits make it far superior to refined table salt in every way that matters.

Why Indhu Uppu Over Regular Salt?

  • Unprocessed & natural — no bleaching, no anti-caking agents, no chemical additives of any kind
  • Rich in trace minerals — contains over 80 natural minerals including potassium, magnesium, calcium, and iron that are stripped from regular salt
  • Supports digestion — traditionally used in Siddha and Ayurvedic medicine to stimulate digestive enzymes and relieve acidity and bloating
  • Lower sodium content — naturally lower in sodium chloride than table salt, making it a better choice for those monitoring sodium intake
  • Balances electrolytes — its natural mineral profile helps maintain fluid balance and supports healthy blood pressure
  • Fasting-friendly — the only salt permitted during Hindu fasting days (Ekadashi, Navratri, etc.) as it is considered pure and sattvic

How to Use

Use as a direct replacement for regular table salt in all cooking — curries, rice, chutneys, pickles, and marinades. It dissolves easily and imparts a clean, rounded flavour without the sharp harshness of refined salt. Also excellent for making chaas (buttermilk), lemon water, and traditional Siddha health drinks.

Store in a dry, airtight container away from moisture.

Pure from the earth. Honest to the last grain. The Nattrinai way.
